Cathedral of Junk NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Out here in the greatest city in Texas there is a little saying called “KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD”.
It’s simple enough, but to really understand you can’t simply just live in Austin, your whole being must “believe” in Austin.
Folk in Austin love weird, we love art, creation, growth, and more than anything we accept different.
And so to my peers and fellow loved ones I come to you with a very disturbing story, the Cathedral of Junk is under threat of being shut down if not completely demolished.
What is the Cathedral of Junk? Well if the name doesn’t set off any bells, I’ll break it down for you. This dude (Vince Hanneman) started collecting junk in the 80s and made his South Austin backyard into this oasis of random items, things, and what-cha-ma-call-its.

The Cathedral of Junk is estimated to collectively weigh over 60 tons and until the last engineer snoop test has been considered structurally sound for over 20 years.
And while the person that called 311 to report this “safety violation” was probably just some Yankee/Yuppie Prick that didn’t understand what living in Austin really means we will forgive them for the time being and JOIN TOGETHER to make Austin STRONGER, BETTER, and well “up to code”.
TODAY Sunday March 28, 2010 you can help by either…
Volunteering to help reconstruction at the Cathedral of Junk (4422 Lareina Dr.) from 10am-8pm
Ormaybe Attending/Donating at JUNKFEST to raise funds at SpiderHouse (2908 Fruth St.) from 3pm-9pm
