Are there wrinkles in the Universe?

In some deep cosmetic way I know everything is predetermined. Granted the small hold we have in existentialism can slightly alter the picture, but the end result will eventually pan out the way it was always expect to. If you are going to die tomorrow, staying home may mean slipping in the shower instead of dying on a job site with provided workers comp. One way your family would have a small financial blanket to handle your final arrangements, the other way you are basically shit out of luck, but regardless of how it pans out if you are destined to die… you will die.

Funny how that works out right? But recently I have been thinking about these discrepancies, between the basic path, and the refusal or empowered human version that we control our own encounters, decisions, and outcome. I like to call the discrepancies between what is going to happen and what we alter to happen in our own terms, wrinkles. Wrinkles are all around us, and they lure us into the false belief that we are empowered and can determine reality.  But on a long enough time line everything will eventually revert back to the original game plan. Or if you take enough time to step back and see the whole picture of your past you will often see loops.  Sometimes wrinkles expedited the process, other times they just delay the inevitable.

And I can only think of poor Oedipus, sent off by his mother to “survive” which eventually led him straight to his predetermined fate of killing his father and sleeping with his mother. His mother decided to use her autonomy to change destiny with her clever “send the baby away” trick only to realign (or set?) the course of mutually assured destruction.  Now this begs to question if he had never been shipped off would the ending have been the same just perhaps on a different time line? Was the legendary tale just an example of a wrinkle in reality, or is it possible to think that maybe just maybe it was the only way things could pan out? Now that my friends in the question that will keep you up at night.

Please English majors, Philosophers, and Loud Mouth Idiots alike, jump on your pedestal and tell me what you think. I am dying for feedback on my wrinkles concepts.
